Mounting

Our 60 Hz Membrane Bass Trap targets one low frequency problem rather than absorbing a little of everything. A limp mass membrane across the front of an airtight box resonates at one frequency, predicted at 60 Hz. At that frequency the membrane moves, and the energy is lost as heat inside the box.

That is why these work where porous absorption does not. A 4" mineral wool panel absorbs well down to about 250 Hz, still works at 125 Hz, and falls off quickly below 100 Hz. These are designed to land on the modes below that.

For broad bass control that keeps absorbing through the mids and highs, use a Diaphragm Bass Trap, predicted to work from about 80 Hz up on 2 ft wide traps and 60 Hz up on 3 ft and wider. A membrane trap can sit behind it or beside it.

Also available tuned to 45 Hz, 70 Hz and 85 Hz. Choose the tuning that matches the mode you are fighting. Every trap is built to order in North Los Angeles and finished in your choice of 50 acoustically transparent colors in Guilford of Maine Anchorage 2335.

Tuning

  • Tuning: Predicted 60 Hz
  • Finished Depth: 13-3/4"

Each trap targets one frequency.

Absorption

Predicted to absorb about 0.9 or more at 60 Hz, and much less above and below it. Click the graph to see it full size.

Mounting

Most of our membrane traps are deep enough to stand up on their own, so no mounting hardware is included and the price reflects that. Add what your room needs: L brackets anchor a floor-standing trap to the wall to keep it from tipping, Z-bar cleats hang it on the wall the traditional way, or put it up on floor legs. Locking casters are a separate add-on if you want to roll it where you need it.

  • No Hardware: The default. Nothing fitted; set it on the floor against the wall or in a corner
  • Heavy Duty L Bracket Kit: Two steel angle brackets, with drywall anchors and construction screws for the wall: anchors into drywall, screws where you hit a stud. Holds a floor-standing trap back against the wall to keep it from tipping
  • Wall Mount Z-Bar Cleats: Aluminum cleat sets for hanging it clear of the floor. Two sets under 6 ft, four sets at 6 ft and over. The cleats screw into solid wood inside the back, so hanging the trap never breaks its seal
  • Floor Legs: The standard Floor Leg Set, sanded, rounded, stained and finished
  • Locking Casters: Four locking swivel casters that bolt under the floor legs, so the trap rolls where you want it and locks in place. Added separately from the legs

Will It Stand on Its Own? Every size free-stands.
