Broadband Acoustic Ceiling Cloud
Perforated hardboard behind the fabric. Bass and low mids pass through to the fill; from about 1 kHz up, part of the sound goes back into the room, so the ceiling doesn't sound over-deadened.
Adds 1/4" to the depth. Plate performance figures are predicted.
Our Broadband ceiling clouds have a 4" core and absorb from 125 Hz up. They hang anywhere you have ceiling space to work with, so you can add absorption to a room without giving up wall space.
Each cloud is a plywood frame around 4" of 6 PCF rigid mineral wool, a dense core rated 0.60 at 125 Hz, 0.88 at 250 Hz and 0.91 or better from 500 Hz up. The fabric wraps the underside and all four sides, so every face you can see from the room is finished.
Lighting Options
Clouds can be ordered with two recessed 6" lights, an LED uplight strip, or both, in standard white or Philips Hue (color changing, app controlled). Click any photo to see it full size.

- Recessed Lights: Two 6" low-profile lights set flush in the underside of the cloud.
- LED Uplight Strip: Runs around the top perimeter and washes the ceiling above with a soft glow.
- Installation: The recessed lights are mounted in the cloud before it ships but are not wired to each other or to power. The LED strip is not pre-installed; it is adhered along the top of the cloud after the cloud is hung.
- Electrical: All wiring and connections to power are done on site by a licensed electrician. If we install your clouds, our licensed electrician does the wiring. Reach out to us for a quote.
Absorption Coefficients
6 PCF rigid mineral wool, 4" core. Conservative figures: the lowest value in each band from published ASTM C423 data for 6 PCF rigid mineral wool board (ROCKWOOL ROCKBOARD 60 and Owens Corning 705). Values above 1.00 are shown as 1.00.
- 125 Hz: 0.60 · 250 Hz: 0.88 · 500 Hz: 1.00
- 1000 Hz: 1.00 · 2000 Hz: 1.00 · 4000 Hz: 0.91
- NRC: 0.95

Materials and Specs
- Core: 6 PCF rigid mineral wool, 4"
- Frame: Plywood
- Depth: 5.5"
- Fabric: Guilford of Maine Anchorage 2335, in 50 acoustically transparent colors
- Suspension: Cloud Mounting Kit included: eye bolts, quick links, screw eye hooks for joists and toggle bolts for drywall or plywood. On the eye bolts and quick links alone a cloud sits about 3" off the ceiling; add lengths of chain or hanging wire (not included) to hang it lower
- Hanging: A cloud hangs from four points, so each point carries about a quarter of its weight. Screw the eye hooks into ceiling joists, or use the toggle bolts through drywall or plywood where there is no joist. Any chain or wire you add should be rated well above that load. Lifting and hanging a cloud takes two people
Ordering and Shipping
Built to order. 3 x 6' through 4 x 8' clouds ship by freight, with the rate calculated at checkout. Very large orders get a freight quote, which we'll email you for approval before we start your build. 4 x 10' clouds are too long to ship, so they are available for local delivery (within 60 miles of our Chatsworth shop) or pickup only. Local installation is also available.
