Our free standing panels absorb from 125 Hz up with the same 4" mineral wool core as our broadband panels, set in a red oak veneer plywood frame with oak edgebanding and finished with fabric track on both faces. Use them for positions away from a wall, such as between a drum kit and an amp, across a doorway, or anywhere wall mounting is not practical.

The fabric track finishes both faces with no exposed staples on the panel, and the fabric is replaceable, so a color change later is a re-tuck rather than a rebuild. Finished in your choice of 50 acoustically transparent colors in Guilford of Maine Anchorage 2335. Floor legs are included; locking casters and an acrylic viewing window are add-ons on this page.

Stain and Topcoat

Choose a Clear, Early American, Gunstock, Weathered Oak, Dark Walnut or Ebony stain, finished with a matte or satin polyurethane topcoat. Every stain is the same price, and the floor legs are finished to match. Triangular plywood corner braces keep the frame rigid and square.

Acrylic Viewing Window

Add a clear window so performers can see each other across the room while the gobo does its job. The window is 3/8" clear acrylic set into the panel at eye level and runs the full width between the side frames, so it reads from both sides.

  • 6' Gobos: 20" tall window, 38" to 58" from the floor on casters. Covers seated eye height and leaves a solid band of panel above it.
  • 7' and 8' Gobos: 24" tall window, 42" to 66" from the floor on casters. Covers seated and standing eye height.
  • Without Casters: Every height is 2.75" lower.
  • Construction: The acrylic is held between wood stops and two added cross members in the frame finish, with fabric track above and below the window on both faces.
  • Price: $249 on the 2 x 6', $299 on the 3 x 6', 3 x 7' and 3 x 8', $349 on the 4 x 8'.

Reflector Plate Option

A free standing absorber this size pulls a lot of high-frequency energy out of a room, and in a small live room or control room that can leave things sounding dead. The Reflector Plate is a perforated hardboard sheet set behind the fabric on one or both sides. The holes let mid and low frequencies pass through to the mineral wool behind, where they are absorbed, while the solid areas between them send a portion of the highs back into the room. You keep the low-end control and give some air back.

  • One Side: A panel with an absorptive face and a reflective face. Turn it to suit the session.
  • Both Sides: It acts as a mid/high frequency barrier between instruments or performers.

Absorption Coefficients

6 PCF rigid mineral wool, 4" core. Conservative figures: the lowest value in each band from published ASTM C423 data for 6 PCF rigid mineral wool board (ROCKWOOL ROCKBOARD 60 and Owens Corning 705). Values above 1.00 are shown as 1.00.

  • 125 Hz: 0.60 · 250 Hz: 0.88 · 500 Hz: 1.00
  • 1000 Hz: 1.00 · 2000 Hz: 1.00 · 4000 Hz: 0.91
  • NRC: 0.95

  • Leg Orientation: Two Douglas fir floor legs run front to back under the panel, finished to match the frame. The legs come with the panel but are not installed (installation required). We recommend centering them so they stick out 4" past each face on the 6' and 7' sizes and 5" on the 8' sizes, set 2" in from each side on the 2' wide gobo and 5" in on 3' and wider.
  • Locking Casters: An add-on set of four black swivel casters with 2" polyurethane wheels, one bolted under each end of each leg. Each caster has a foot brake; lock two and the gobo stays where you put it. Casters add 2.75" to the overall height.
  • Overall Height: A 6' gobo stands 69" tall on legs and 71.75" on casters; 7' is 81" and 83.75"; 8' is 93" and 95.75". On its side, a 3' wide gobo is 37.25" on legs and 40" on casters.
  • Stability: The legs give a 15.25" footprint front to back on the 6' and 7' gobos and 17.25" on the 8'. Lock the casters once a gobo is in place, keep the 8' sizes out of walkways where they can be bumped hard, and never lean on, climb or hang anything from a gobo.
